Ballistic Meatballs – It’s All About The Balls, ‘bout The Balls

The revamped Bedok Marketplace, previously known as Simpang Bedok Food Centre, sees a refreshing of new eateries.

The hawker centre is transformed to a rustic and nostalgic shophouses layout (think 1960s Singapore), bringing about a different dining experience.

We are always on the ball for new openings, heard about a central theme eatery revolving around meatballs, and got concerned (about their survival).

After all, this is a meatballs-centred shop caters to a specific group of people. You could either like or dislike consuming meaty balls.

The name ‘ballistic’ implies the ‘launch’ of meatballs.

The menu was straightforward – meatballs and sides. We were recommended the Signature Ballistic Meatballs 5pcs ($5.90) and wondered could be so special about it.

And the reply was “You will see yellowish liquid oozing out of the balls”. Ok noted, he meant that there would be cheese in the meatballs.

Each meatball was handcrafted and we noticed that not all meatballs have the same amount of cheese. Some of the meatballs were barren without any cheese though.

The Plain Jane Meatballs (5pcs at $4) were available in 4 flavours: Beef, Chicken, Seafood and Vegetarian. Choice of a wrap, salad or sandwich at an additional $1.90 was available to go with the meatballs.

The pasta (spicy tomato, cream pesto or aglio olio) came with a choice of penne or linguine at an additional $3.90. Al dente style with a creamy base that was not too ‘jelak’ (rich).

Choose between Battered Prawn, Crispy Fish or any Plain Jane Meatballs for the Sliders ($2.90 for 1, $7.90 for 3). Instead of using toasted brioche buns, deep fried mantou buns were used.

The deep fried mantou buns were more of a highlight to us. Its golden brown skin with a crispy texture and fluffy interior stole the limelight whereas the Battered Prawn meatball fared better than the remaining meatballs.

Perhaps, just a suggestion, a Chili Crab meatball may work since Fried Mantou and Chili Crab is a perfect match.

It is interesting to see an eatery selling purely meatballs – niche, pretty out of the box (for our country). This is a new ball game after all (pun intended). We look forward to other flavours they can offer.
