Burger & Lobster Bangkok – Famous Lobster Rolls From London In Bangkok, But Very Expensive

[Bangkok] Burger & Lobster in Bangkok, despite being expensive in a city of affordable street food, continues to draw in the crowd.

The Bangkok outpost of this popular chain is located at the ground floor of Gaysorn Plaza in Gaysorn Village, a high-end mall in Ratchaprasong.

The brand of Burger & Lobsters, a UK chain, has been “wild and live” since 2011. It began with 4 schoolmates on a rooftop in London.

Their bright idea was to put up a restaurant where they only serve one or two main ingredients, but executed perfectly. So, in a small Irish pub in Mayfair the first Burger & Lobster was born.

The chain has grown from Mayfair to 9 more outlets internationally. Burger & Lobster has made its mark in Stockholm, Dubai, London, Manchester, Kuwait, Jeddah, Genting Highlands, New York, and Bangkok.

True to its founders’ original idea to limit the menu to a few items, there are only 3 main items available: Burgers, Lobsters, and Lobster Rolls.

Their lobsters are wild-caught and come live from Nova Scotia, CA. The burgers are made from 100% Nebraskan Beef.

To complement these menu starrers, Burger & Lobster offers some sides and beverages to complete the dining experience.

As you enter, you would be greeted by a large brand signage positioned on a wooden wall.

The place is a fun, brightly lit place, with good music for ambiance. Retro-style light bulbs hang from the ceiling using long cords.

Long upholstered booth seats and wooden chairs are available to serve big groups. Tables are quite placed closely together so don’t expect much privacy. Could be a bit noisy when the crowds build up in the afternoon or during peak hours.

It was quite packed even as I went in late weekday lunch, with many tourists on the other tables, with the ones next to me taking 15 minutes of selfies before starting the meal. Not judging, because there is a bit of ‘show-off’ factor when dining at B&L.

Let’s start with the burgers. They offer 3 kinds using brioche buns with sesame seeds.

The 6-ounce Original Burger (750THB, SGD$30.85) comes with lettuce, tomato, house made pickles, B&L’s secret burger sauce, and chips and salad.

At London, the Original Burger is priced at £16 (SGD$28.90), and New York City which I last had it at USD$20 (SGD$26.60). WOW, and this is Bangkok.

Next up is the Spicy Burger (850THB, SGD$34.95) which is the Original Burger with chipotle chili mayo for that extra fiery kick.

They also have the B&L Truffle Beast priced at a whopping 2900 THB (SGD$119.27). It’s a 10-ounce beef burger patty topped with lobster meat, brie, truffle & tarragon mayo, fennel and Chinese cabbage.

It was an okay, quite juicy burger, but almost forgettable. Perhaps the price is not that justifiable except for its branding. There are many decent burgers in Bangkok costing a fraction of that price.

As for the lobsters, you can choose from the Original, Chilli or the Jumbo Lobster.

The Original (1500THB, SGD$61.65) is a 1.5-pound lobster (average weight, as it may vary) served with chips & salad.

If you prefer a spicy version, go for the Chilli Lobster (1850THB, SGD$76.08), a 1-pound lobster topped with homemade chilli sauce that comes in a seeded brioche bun.

For your huge appetite, the Jumbo Lobsters will delight you. Please ask the server for their daily catch.

All lobster rolls come in a toasted brioche bun. The Original Roll (1500THB, SGD$61.65) is lobster with Japanese mayo & lemon.

Served with chips and salad, the Lobster Avocado Roll (950THB, SGD$39.07) includes lettuce, tomato, cucumber, mayo, and of course, avocado. A spicy version, the Chilli Roll (950THB, SGD$39.07) is made of prawn and lobster combined with their homemade chilli sauce.

I had the Lobster Avocado Roll, and loved the freshness and sweetness of the lobster chunks. The bun was soft and fluffy, though not as memorable as my last B&L which had this thin crisp on the outer layer.

Sides are priced from 45THB to 290THB (SGD$1.85 to SGD$11.92) which includes cheese, bacon, chips, salad, jasmine rice, brioche truffle chips, and panko prawns.

Drinks range from 340 THB (SGD$13.98) like the Eastern Promise (Jasmine infused Vodka, lychee, raspberry, lemon, egg white) to 420THB (SGD$17.27) for the Compass Box (B&L Rum Blend, almond, pineapple, orange, coconut, orange conserve, lime, maraschino).

The restaurant accepts its last reservation at 3pm for 4 up to 16 pax.

When commuting, take the train and exit at Chitlom BTS Station. There is a sheltered skywalk from Chitlom to the restaurant for your convenience.
